Venice Airport: Safer Airspace for Millions

Venice Airport: Safer Airspace for Millions

OSL is thrilled to unveil an exciting partnership with SAVE’s Venice Airport, implementing a proactive drone detection solution that will strengthen the airport’s site security and increase the safety of over 11.3 million passengers yearly.

Unauthorised drone activity is a great safety concern for airports worldwide, capable of suspending operations, seriously damaging aircraft, and compromising the safety of people on site. As a result, SAVE Group, that manages the airports of Venice, Treviso, Verona, Brescia and Brussels South Charleroi Airport in Belgium, had been searching for solutions capable of effectively detecting drones.

Our hardware-agnostic approach introduced and integrated technology from across the entire Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (CUAS) industry. This way, we could meet SAVE’s need for minimised disruption and smooth operations with the most effective deployment possible.

Creating a bespoke site-wide solution involved collaborating closely with the SAVE team.  Our team prioritised gaining a comprehensive understanding of the airport's needs and operational dynamics. Achieving this involved performing on-site assessments in Italy, and drawing on learnings from our previous successful site implementations.

With this deep understanding of the airport's needs and operational dynamics, OSL were able to develop a comprehensive drone detection solution for Venice Airport. Monitored 24/7 remotely from OSL's UK-based operations centre, this solution ensures rapid detection and response of any site-specific drone activity. Scalable and flexible, the solution can adjust to accommodate evolving safety challenges in the future, all while enabling a proactive and robust approach.

Reflecting on OSL, Deputy Safety Manger Mr Federico Cesarotti says:

“OSL's solutions will undoubtedly enhance our safety measures at Venice Airport, increasing our situational awareness of drone activities and ensuring quicker responses to incursions. Safety remains our highest priority, and I truly believe that this proactive approach will enable Venice Airport to adapt to evolving challenges effectively.”

Our Business Development Manager, Samuel Lowe, also commented on the new partnership:

"I'm excited to welcome Venice Airport and SAVE into my client portfolio, by implementing new capabilities at the airport to monitor drone activity in their airspace and ultimately ensure the safety of millions of passengers each year. Our tailored solutions exemplify our commitment to delivering effective safety measures that meet the distinct needs of each client."
