Infrastructure Support Specialist
Purpose of the role:
This role is central to OSL's growth, ensuring the effective design, deployment, and maintenance of IT infrastructure and systems that support Counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems (C-UAS) and wider safety and security applications.
Reporting to the IT Manager, the postholder will deliver project work for both new and existing customers, while also administering infrastructure across customer sites, OSL locations, and cloud environments. The role also involves providing technical expertise to optimise performance, resilience, and security of IT systems.
The position requires maintaining and improving operational procedures, documentation, and support processes, while ensuring requests for support are managed in line with agreed standards. The postholder will also be responsible for identifying and resolving operational issues, escalating where necessary to enable improvements.

Key job requirements and responsibilities:
- Act as the technical lead for customer-facing projects, contributing to project plans, designing deployment strategies, and providing regular communication to stakeholders.
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, network equipment, storage systems, and related infrastructure across internal and external environments.
- Review installations for effectiveness and recommend changes where required.
- Perform routine system updates, patch management, and monitoring to ensure security and optimal performance.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues promptly to minimise downtime.
- Provide responsive technical support to colleagues and customers, ensuring clear communication and a service-oriented approach.
- Collaborate with other departments to help deliver company and customer objectives.
- Implement and maintain security best practices, monitoring for breaches and acting to mitigate risks.
- Produce and maintain accurate documentation, including network diagrams, system configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
- Provide status updates and reports to managers, colleagues, and customers as required.
Qualifications / skills and experience
Essential
- Experience providing technical support in customer-facing and internal environments.
- Proficiency in installing, configuring, and managing server operating systems (particularly Linux/Ubuntu).
- Strong networking knowledge (Layer 3, VLANs, STP, Cisco IOS, etc.).
- Experience with virtualisation and containerisation technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, Docker).
- Database administration skills (MariaDB, MySQL, MS SQL).
- Knowledge of endpoint protection solutions.
- Ability to manage competing workloads and deliver solutions in a timely manner.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Desirable
- Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Administration experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, and Entra.
- Experience configuring and supporting MS Exchange (server and online) and iMail.
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure).
- Familiarity with hardware used for drone detection (radars, cameras, RF sensors).
Other Information
- Based primarily at OSL's Sunnyside and Easter Park headquarters, with occasional UK and possible international travel.
- Out-of-hours work will be required on a rota and ad-hoc basis.
- The role requires the right to work in the UK, pre-employment background checks, and the ability to obtain and maintain security clearance (supported by OSL).
