Purpose of the role:

This hybrid role provides Field Services Engineer (FSE) expertise to CUAS operations, including installation, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of radars, radio frequency (RF) detectors, and various camera systems. The role ensures ongoing operation of the Training and Reference Facility (TRF). The secondary element is Simulator Technician cover at RAF Odiham, delivering Level 1 & 2 planned and reactive maintenance on the Mk6 Chinook simulator. The postholder must apply strong problem-solving, technical, and safety skills across both functions.

Key job requirements and responsibilities:

  • First line troubleshooting and autonomous fault resolution.
  • Fault finding, maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning of security and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Software, hardware, and basic network configuration tasks.
  • Assessing equipment performance in both test and live environments.
  • Producing technical reports and reviewing technical data and drawings.
  • Carrying out planned maintenance for the Mk6 Chinook simulator.
  • Managing databases, ordering/replenishing parts, and tracking via inventory management systems.
  • Carrying out software changes/updates for the Mk6 Chinook as directed.
  • Demonstrating excellent communication and administration skills (written and verbal).
  • Working in accordance with H&S guidelines at company and customer sites, and complying with statutory UK HSE requirements.

Qualifications / skills and experience:

  • Understanding of military avionics/electronics and flight simulators (advantageous).
  • Knowledge of radar and RF theory and characteristics.
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict timelines.
  • Knowledge of HSE and SIA regulations.
  • Experience or interest in operating UAS (drones).
  • Awareness of current and emerging security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Strong IT skills with proficiency in MS Teams and Office.
  • General qualification in engineering, electronics, or maths & science A Levels.
  • Practical workshop-based skills.
  • Full UK driving licence with business insurance (essential).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC) is essential. Existing SC clearance is desirable.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Understanding of military avionics/electronics and flight simulators (advantageous).
  • Knowledge of radar and RF theory and characteristics.

Shift Times

Flexibility across hybrid working is essential. The role requires working patterns as follows:

  • FSE, Mon--Fri 09:00--18:00
  • Simulator Technician -- Mon--Fri 06:00--15:00 or 14:00--23:00
